Dinner with the Flemmings

We all had a great time in Charleston many moons ago, and now Alan and Jennifer reside in Portland. I had breakfast with Alan back in May, but haven't seen Jennifer in years, like 10, years! We had a lovely time catching up at their house and dinner on the southeast side of town.

Sunshine in Astoria

It was raining in Portland, and really flooded on the route to the coast. Everyone has been asking me about the floods, from what they're seeing on the news. Apparently roads were closed, due to landslides, but we missed all that.

Just over an hour later, the view from the hotel was epic! The bridge leads north to Washington. In the container ship is heading out to sea.

This is the first map I've seen with a tsunami evacuation route! Good information, given the location.

I love to this car parked in the valet loop out front. I had no idea that transportation around town was included in our stay! More on that later...

We drove to the Pacific ocean, just a few miles away. This is where the Columbia River meets the sea.

The jetties were built to keep the river open since it is such a busy port.

It was super windy! And pretty cold. But the sun was out, which we heard is incredibly uncommon. Astoria has the most rainy days per year of any place in the lower 48 states. But it's a really quaint little place, and The Goonies was filmed here!

Interesting tidal flats, so much different than Florida.

Loads of lumber, everywhere you look. That's common throughout the Pacific Northwest, especially at the ports.

We took the fancy car to the brewery! It was much too cold, rainy, and windy to walk.

The chauffeur was dressed to the nines, complete with hat and bowtie, toured us around town. He had even saved us some fresh baked cookies when we returned after dinner. Very entertaining!

All of Oregon is so dog friendly. This was at the entrance to a brewery. What's not to love?

The next morning was not sunny. But we found some seals! See their little heads poking up in the center of the picture? We heard them barking last night, in the dark, so we came back to see them today. I love seals! Reminds me of rescuing them on the beach in the Outer Banks.

We went to the harbor and could really hear them barking. They are located at the end of the docs towards the left of the image.

Here, I zoomed in to show how many individuals there were! Clever how they hang out on the dock. Such a neat place. If you're ever in Northwestern Oregon, check it out.

Oh, the places we go!

The Subaru has been awesome for transporting three very excited dogs to and from lots of dog parks, beaches, and trails.

Sometimes I take Wrigley, sometimes I take Maverick and Wrigley, but this time I took just Maverick on a walk to the grocery store. Only in Portland would there be a hook for the dog leash on the sidewalk by the entrance. Such a handsome dog!

Streetcar Tour

We went on a private streetcar tour of the city, as part of a brewery patron party. Charley has great connections!

It was really fun to see the city at night, with all the lights. It was raining, as usual, but still pretty. And we got to go over the new bridge, that was built exclusively for mass transit.

It was really cool to drink delicious craft beer on the streetcar! We met all kinds of interesting beer people.

Friends and Furkids

I got to meet up with Emily for breakfast, it's been so long since we saw each other! She moved to Denver, after leaving Florida, a few years ago. It was really great to catch up, while she was in Portland for a conference.

Back at home, the dogs were exceptionally cuddly. All three, in my lap!

Wrigley is in the crack of the couch. Sheba is under Charley's legs, and Maverick under his feet.

Such a cozy evening!

There's a lot of love in this house!

NBA game

My first NBA game: Portland Trail Blazers vs Indiana Pacers.
It was really exciting! The crowd was fun.  And at one point, we ended up on the Jumbotron!

Complete with certificate, and pin, lol! Charley's friend invited us to his company's box.

The suite had a private restroom- with a tv!

The Moda Center was beautiful, and just a short train ride into the city. I love that everywhere in Portland is uber environmental. I fit right in and no one thinks I'm a nut for picking recyclables out of the trash or composting!

Dog days

This is pretty much the afternoon arrangement. Everyday.

There is usually snuggling in the evenings. It's gets dark, and then cold, so early here!

Everyone takes their place at bedtime. Wrigley sleeps on top of two beds.

Sometimes the black babies get in the human bed after breakfast.

Mid-afternoon nap. Why not?
