Thanksgiving with Friends

The Turkey Trot 5k is always a fun way to start the Thanksgiving holiday. It's so gorgeous to run through the streets of downtown when the temperature is actually chilly. And of course, with over 4,000 runners, it's a riot to see everyone's creative costumes!

I had bunch at Lisa's and dinner with Brittany's family. Then I headed over to Ft. Lauderdale where Shelley had an overnight layover from Denver. We lived it up out in the town as we caught up on the past few years.

The next day, I drove to Sanibel Island to meet Dave and Jodi's family. I see them more in Florida in November than us being in Pennsylvania at the same time. And why not, when there are Xmas trees on the beach?

Adventure Race

Lovely morning for a kayak and run!

Jill and I practiced near the starting line.

There was quite a crowd this year!

We made it through the transition fine and headed to the trail!

And won first place! (Again! We've done this before!)

Jill, Brooke, and I all prefer the warmer temperatures for racing! Maybe the West Virginia race was a good training for us?

NERRs Annual Meeting

It's so fun to see Sarah at this meeting every year!

When in West Virginia, you must wear furry hats and be prepared for wild animal sightings.

It was colder than what anyone would find comfortable.

And somehow, us Florida folks survived, not only the cold, but a 3 mile race in the cold! My lungs burned for days afterwards, but we did it... hills and all!

Jolley Bridge Run

This is a pretty tough 5k- the hill going up the bridge is long and steep!

And you go over it, turn around, and come right back!!

But it is a gorgeous view of sunrise from the top.

Not a terrible time, all things considered.

After every race comes a big breakfast with a beer!

Emergency Management Day

My Leadership Collier class had a behind-the-scenes tour of Emergency Management. We saw the 911 Call Center and learned about Disaster Response.

There was a demonstration of the Ebola suit.

We all got outfitted in fire gear and sprayed a real fire hose- wow, it was heavy!

I went up in the bucket, 17 stories, which was scary as all hell, but there was an amazing view.

What's even scarier are those stairs which firefighters sometimes have to climb if there isn't another operator available on the ground.

Fancy Affair

I got invited to a swanky restaurant opening on 5th Avenue, so Brittany and I dressed up and hob-nobbed our way through the luxiourous food and drink.

The place was gorgeous, the people were elegant, and we did our best to play the part. Aside from being the youngest guests in attendance, haha, we schmoozed the fancy folks and each took home $100 gift certificate!
