They call Naples paradise for good reason. It has incredible beaches, wildlife and scenery, plus amazing weather year-round. I've always longed to wear flip flops every day. And I've finally found my niche, along with a fulfilling occupation, my own home, and a place where where my doggies and tortoises are happy as can be. It can't get any better than this!

Nights in Rodanthe House- On the Move!
The house featured in Nights in Rodanthe, that nearly washed away during the nor'easter and hurricane event back in November, has been successfully moved to a safer location, just down the road. The house weighed 83,000 pounds and was moved by the same company that relocated the Hatteras Lighthouse. Its available for weekly rental, if you've got an extra $6,100.00 laying around! The video below is almost 10 minutes long, but shows the magnificant feat of moving the monster house out of the water, over the dunes, and down the road!Wednesday, January 20, 2010
Seal Savin'
I'm on marine mammal duty this week and haven't seen much action until a young harbor seal pup showed up on the beach yesterday, spent the night, and was not looking so good today. He went from a healthy banana shape posture (head and tail off the ground) to a limp-looking napping postion overnight. This morning he started coughing a lot and his eyes were getting runny so Ben and I swooped him up in a dog kennel and sent him for rehab in Virginia. They named him Fozzie Bear (from the Muppets) because he's so fuzzy! He's currently undergoing some antibiotic treatments for his upper respitory infection and hopefully will be back out to sea very soon.

Ice on the Sound
Just a pretty sunset picture over the Currituck Sound. That dark strip of land in the background is 3 miles away and the Sound froze all the way across back in 1980. I'm crossing my fingers it doesn't get that cold this year!

Maverick's New Years Resolution
To start the new year off on the right foot (pun intended), Maverick has insisted that the whole family go for a walk everyday. One day we went to the forest and he was happy to let Sheba chase him up and down the trails. Keep in mind that its been like 33-degrees with a major windchill so both pups were bundled in their fleece jackets.
Yesterday we went to the beach to chase the ball. Sheba runs to the ball and Maverick boxes into her by running zig zags the whole way slow her down from getting to the ball. See the tracks in a figure-eight? She barks and jumps over him sometimes! Crazy, but good exercise for the both of them.
Then Maverick found a sandbag used to stablize the beach (which doesn't really work, it actually causes more erosion- like those breakwalls at Presque Isle) and he let those bags know who's boss at the beach! He's such a smart dog to know that sandbags are bad and tore a few holes in them to prove his point. What a maniac!
