Our adventure can be described by the following equation...
2 humans + 2 dogs / 1 small car x 21.5 hours of continuous driving = a memorable visit!
Maverick and Sheba slept nearly the entire ride... And Henrik drove most of the way! One of the perks of having a boyfriend who makes a living transporting people from place to place :)

Upon arrival, everyone put Henrik right to work- learning about catering and farming! First stop- Mom's restaurant for a Lake Erie perch sandwich. So worth the 1300 mile drive!!

Then to the farm. Here is Henrik climbing up into the hay loft...

... to start unloading almost 400 bales of hay!

After three huge wagon loads, we called it a day!

But the puppies never quit- they love cows...

... and hunting in the grain room? Who knew that Maverick,
Mr. I Like To Rub On Perfume Samples In Magazines would catch mice and eat them while they are still alive? Between the two of them, they caught and ate six mice!!

But that's not the only mischief they got into... Rolling in cow patties means bath time! These dogs never saw a wash tub before. Four baths was not an easy task: 1- Maverick, 2- Sheba, 3- Cousin Sadie, 4- Maverick, again, because he snuck off and rolled in poo after the first one. He was really showing his alter ego on this vacation!

After all was said and done, we retired to the milk house for some ice cold beverages. Mav fell asleep sitting up after all of his adventures! Sheba didn't get any rest because there was so much to see and sniff (and cookies to eat!)

Speaking of eating, Henrik learned all about fresh eggs. Pretty much out from under the hen. Breakfast will never be the same.

No visit to the farm is complete without learning how drive a wheelbarrow of poop!
As I expected, he passed the test! I got worried the wheelbarrow might tip at the last second, as he walked up the skinny plank to the poo pile, but he made barn cleaning look easy.

And made a fashion statement doing so- I can bet that no one has ever shoveled cow poop in this barn in flip flops and golf shorts!

We saw a newborn calf, just a few hours old. So cute!

I took Henrik on a hike through the woods to show him how different it is than South Florida. The dogs led the way, trailblazing through the old paths I grew up traipsing.

Such a great visit, seeing family and showing Henrik the ways of Waterford. He is quite a globe-trotter, but I suspect he'd agree that Waterford has charm like nowhere else.
