It was raining in Portland, and really flooded on the route to the coast. Everyone has been asking me about the floods, from what they're seeing on the news. Apparently roads were closed, due to landslides, but we missed all that.

Just over an hour later, the view from the hotel was epic! The bridge leads north to Washington. In the container ship is heading out to sea.

This is the first map I've seen with a tsunami evacuation route! Good information, given the location.

I love to this car parked in the valet loop out front. I had no idea that transportation around town was included in our stay! More on that later...

We drove to the Pacific ocean, just a few miles away. This is where the Columbia River meets the sea.

The jetties were built to keep the river open since it is such a busy port.

It was super windy! And pretty cold. But the sun was out, which we heard is incredibly uncommon. Astoria has the most rainy days per year of any place in the lower 48 states. But it's a really quaint little place, and The Goonies was filmed here!

Interesting tidal flats, so much different than Florida.

Loads of lumber, everywhere you look. That's common throughout the Pacific Northwest, especially at the ports.

We took the fancy car to the brewery! It was much too cold, rainy, and windy to walk.

The chauffeur was dressed to the nines, complete with hat and bowtie, toured us around town. He had even saved us some fresh baked cookies when we returned after dinner. Very entertaining!

All of Oregon is so dog friendly. This was at the entrance to a brewery. What's not to love?

The next morning was not sunny. But we found some seals! See their little heads poking up in the center of the picture? We heard them barking last night, in the dark, so we came back to see them today. I love seals! Reminds me of rescuing them on the beach in the Outer Banks.

We went to the harbor and could really hear them barking. They are located at the end of the docs towards the left of the image.

Here, I zoomed in to show how many individuals there were! Clever how they hang out on the dock. Such a neat place. If you're ever in Northwestern Oregon, check it out.
