They call Naples paradise for good reason. It has incredible beaches, wildlife and scenery, plus amazing weather year-round. I've always longed to wear flip flops every day. And I've finally found my niche, along with a fulfilling occupation, my own home, and a place where where my doggies and tortoises are happy as can be. It can't get any better than this!

Pet Drama: Part One
Poor Mav! He and Sheba were playing too rough and he ended up with 5 staples! The vet said that she probably had her mouth open going for the ball and he got his head inbetween her chompers and then turned away, thus making a big gash in his eyebrow. I thought he would mope more than ever, but he's being so tough! Must be because we're in Pennsylvania for three weeks and he's such a happy boy :)

Oldest Shipwreck in NC!
When Ben and I first moved to Corolla, we were convinced we had found Blackbeard's pirate ship... but everyone laughed and said that in the winter, it is common for old ship parts wash up or become uncovered with the strong wind and waves. As it turns out, someone was using a metal detector near "our" ship and recovered a coin from the early 1600's! They went to the Dept of Underwater Archeology and helped unearth the oldest ship ever found in North Carolina!
It is believed to be the British Royal Navy Advice Boat called the HMS Swift- built in 1696! When wrecked off the coast of VA, it weighted 152 tons and had 55 men onboard! There are records of it washing up in Corolla on February 1st, 1698; Outer Bankers looted the ship and possibly buried it. For the last 312 years, there she sat, right across from the lighthouse!

Ruby Beauty
I just love this picture that my friends Sarah & Matt took while they were visiting a few weeks ago! Sarah waited patiently in the chaise lounge with her camera as this Ruby-throated Hummingbird kept getting closer and closer. We have had three males all winter and they sure are fiesty! If the feeders (of which we have THREE!) are empty, those tiny birds let you know by buzzing right past your head. I've even caught them peeking in the kitchen window to see if we're making them sugar water at the stove! Don't forget, its 4 parts water, 1 part sugar, and no food coloring necessary (the dyes might actually hurt the birds!)

My Kind of Chocolate Bar!
A friend brought us this GIANT chocolate bar from Belarus- it is exactly 1 kilogram (which is 2.2 lbs!) Thanks, Alex!

Berfday Biscuits
The pups and I have been enjoying my new doggie cookbook! For Mav's bday, I made icy ricey, which is cooked whole-grain rice, corn, and turkey gravy frozen in an ice cube tray. For Sheba's bday, I made birthday pupcakes, which were basically muffins with carrots, bananas, cheese, and turkey inside. Mmm!
For the berfday party, we made berfday biscuits- the recipe created 81 total bones! We had a lovely party with Sheba's puppies, Ziggy and Zagnut. Yes, her puppies are almost twice her size! Thank you Karl and Hunter for making Sheba's bday so special :)

Two happy dogs
I have a million pictures to post on my seemingly-neglected blog, but spending the day at the beach with the pups was too hard to resist. Look how happy they are!
