National Marine Educators Association Conference

I had a work trip to Orlando for a conference on Marine Education.

I got to spend some time with Brooke, who I miss dearly since she left Florida.

And this is the first time seeing Sarah since she had the twins!

It was a really great week. One evening we visited Sea World and rode roller coasters. Terrifying!

Another night was a nice dinner with old and new friends.

Teachers on the Estuary workshop

Eleven teachers came from near and far for my annual TOTE workshop.

And this year's teaching team came from Alabama, Apalachicola, St. Augustine, Pennsylvania, and Puerto Rico!

Naturally, we toured the sights and sounds of Naples, including sunset at the pier. Good times!

Beer run

The beer run is a super fun semi-annual event. You pay $20 for a wristband that gets you a cold beer at four bars, one every mile. The event begins and ends at Tommy Bahamas.

1 mile to Patty Murphy's = first cold beer

2nd mile equals push-ups and cold beer #2 at the Cabana Bar

Third stop is at The Dock. By this point, it is getting really hot which makes the cold beer taste even better!

Somewhere along the way was a group photo, and then the cold beer finale back at Tommy's. Cheers!

Payton play date

I am dog sitting Payton for a few days and someone isn't happy that he has to share my attention!

Sheba, on the other hand, is excited to have another playmate. Lots of time with the ball in the yard!

The ball-playing doggies took over the beds, but Mavie was trying to be a good sport. He tolerates Payton but is always happy when he goes home!

Triathlon

For the second year in a row, I joined Kerry and Lyn on the running leg of this local triathlon.

The good part about going first is that I'm totally recovered by the time they finish!

We were a few minutes faster than last year!

We earned some quality beach time, with great friends and cold beers!

Until a storm rolled in…

Like really fast!

We beat it for the car just in the nick of time. But it was so pretty!

Grouper fishing

Jamie's family was in town and they needed an extra fisherman on the charter. When in Rome!

It was gorgeous! We traveled about 34 miles offshore, and the depth was about 40 feet.

We caught a ton of red grouper!

I just so happen to win the pool- I caught the longest fish, and the heaviest!

And the best part was the captain clean and filleted them for us, and all six of us went home with several pounds of fresh fish in Ziploc bags!

The birds are no dummies- they knew that tasty little fishy scraps were on the way.
